We arrived in Tupiza from Villazon by bus and arranged a five day tour with Tupiza Tours located in the pleasant Hotel Mitru. The tour included accomodation and a guide to assist in climbing the Lincancabur volcano at the extreme south west corner of Bolivia on the border with Chile.
The incredible scenery unfolded as soon as we left Tupiza with the 'fin' rock formations in the quebrada on the edge of the town.
After a long climb up to the alti-plano we stayed the first night in the village of San Antonio at 4, 200m above sea level. Thereafter the alti-plano and puna scenery at around 4,550m above sea level both surreal and magnificent with volcanoes reflecting in the stunning borax lakes all populated with pink, white and black flamingoes.
At the foot of the Lincancabur volcano we saw an amazing green coloured and very surreal arsenic lake, this time without, of course, flamingoes!
Our guided climb up the northern ridge of Lincancabur (5,930m) starting at 03:30 and was an incredible experience as the dawn came up behind us. However the altitude defeated us and we had to turn back at an altitude of 5,334m. It was however an superb experience with stunning views of the endless alti-plano with volcanoes projecting from the plateau as far as the eye could see. Not to mention the water freezing in our water bottles!
The tour was completed with a stay in the highly recommended 'Desertio' Hotel with very attentive and warm staff and finally a stay in the 'Salt Hotel' and a visit to the Salar de Uyuni. The salt-flats gave a grand finale, giving the impression of a frozen lake stretching away to the distant volcanoes on the horizon.
The tour was superbly organised by Tupiza tours with our driver Jerrado and his wife, Christina (our cook) being wonderful, congenial hosts. Both Jerrado and Christina made a great difference to out tour with their enthusiasm and particularly Christinia's ability to provide excellent food in the wilderness environment. Both of them are a great asset to Tupiza Tours, who we would highly recommend for organising a tour of Bolivia's unique landscapes.

Já viajei com outras companhias mas nenhuma prestou um serviço tão primoroso, especial, atencioso e qualitativamente destacado quanto a Tupiza Tours. Não é somente a qualidade dos guias, motoristas e cozinheiras que a Agência oferece, mas sobretudo a especificidade do roteiro que se deseja percorrer ( e que é construído junto com a direção da Agência), é também a qualidade saudável das refeições oferecidas e da acomodação que se recebe nos percursos dos desertos e salares (sem dúvida muito difíceis de percorrer) , que somente são amenizados pela qualidade e atenção fornecidas pelos serviços fornecidos pelos funcionários da Agência Tupiza Tours. E mais, os roteiros da Agência são, sem dúvida alguma, dos mais belos do mundo, pois os desertos do altiplano são um enfrentamento com o absoluto, até mesmo com deus ou com o inimaginável. As paisagens são, realmente, de cortar o fôlego. No altiplano boliviano, as minhas paisagens favoritas são as do Salar de Uyuni e as que cercam e estão no Vale de Tupiza. Suas belezas, absolutamente contrastantes, são inimagináveis. É, definitivamente, um lugar para retornar sempre. E contando sempre com os serviços da Tupiza Tours. |

Para empezar, quiero agradecer por las reservas que nos hizo en todos los hoteles que tomamos en nuestro viaje, sobre todo el HOTEL MITRU,donde nuestra estadia fue muy placentera con un desayuno ESPECTACULAR¡¡¡¡¡¡, el hotel Lunna salada, el calor de la Casa de Huespedes Finita en Sucre, etc.
Agradecer TODO nuestro viaje partiendo desde la frontera Argentina en Villazon, pasando por todas las lagunas y salares, seguimos hacia el norte de bolivia por Potosí, Sucre, Chataquila, Maragua, Tihuanacu, el Lago Titicaca y finalmente viajamos con sus servicios hacia Rurrenabaque.
Pensamos que TUPIZA TOURS, pese a ser una empresa pequeña, tiene TODA LA CAPACIDAD de poder organizar este tipo de tours.

Quelle aventure et quel froid mais ca en valait la peine. Un tout grand merci en particulier pour la gentillesse de notre guide et de notre cuisiniere Ramiro et Victoria. Le retour Uyuni-Tupiza a ete une belle surprise: la route et les paysages sont splendides.
Je ne peux que recommander vivement l'agence Tupiza dont j'ai particulierement apprecie le sens commercial des personnes qui y travaillent: ils ont ete tres arrangeants et ont dans la mesure du possible rendu notre sejour des plus agreables.
