DESCRIPTION OF CIRCUITS IN HORSES
Riding circuits tour picturesque villages and fields, groves of weeping willows, poplars and leafy molles with a background of multicolored hills, valleys, canyons and rivers, passing through farmland and villages connected with each other, giving the tour a unique feature and adventure like no other. We synthesize information with the description of four-day the tour.
1. 1. TOURS TO SOUTH (map) (photos)
From Tupiza we go to Quebrada de Palmira, where vertical red mountains such as La Puerta del Diablo, stand proud to show their splendor, further north, we visit the Valle de los Machos with phallic lytic formations and as background the Inca Canyon. (3 h)
We continue the journey dodging steep trails in the Cañón del Duende and then on the river bed of Quebrada Seca, where the colors of the hills outstand. (5 hrs) Going down, we arrive to Toroyoj, a place of rest and recreation, surrounded by sharp rocks and huge colored vertical rocks, near the San Juan del Oro River (7 hrs). We head towards Titihoyo, surrounded by beautiful mountain formations of different colors, later on we reach Monte and Quiriza by following a path full of cacti. This is the end of the first day after 24 km (1st. day).
With the first rays of sun, we go to San Miguel de Catati, entering a long canyon that leads to San Jose, Pampa Grande, Checona, Peña Blanca and Irixina we visit these towns and cross to the opposite side of the river up to Talina, a legendary village and gorge, with an extraordinary beauty. (2nd day).
The journey continues visiting El Condor Canyon, a small basin with an outbreak of thermal waters. Then we go to Churquipampa and Viscachani and Espicaya. (3rd day).
The next day, we follow the banks of San Juan del Oro river to Chacopampa, Palquiza, El Toroyoj, the show in its banks is impressive, water beats with fury against the walls of reddish hills, huge monolithic structures such as La Torre. Below, the two rivers unite their waters in Entre Rios. Finally, we come to El Angosto, which is crossed riding alone the Tupiza river, in dry weather, a suicidal and impossible mission during rainy season, Finally we travel the last kilometers of an unforgettable journey, usually in the afternoon at the sunset. 2. 2. NORTHERN CIRCUIT (map) (photos)
This tour, besides from visiting beautiful places, is intended to go through the places and relive the last heist committed by the bandits Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We leave from Tupiza where the money remittance of the Aramayo Mining Company, the most important one, departed back in 1908. Money which was intended to pay the wages of the miners who worked at the Quechisla mine.
Following the journey of the bandits, we visit picturesque towns in the most popular road during the mid 1900s towards Huaca Huañusca, the place of the last robbery.
We start in Tupiza towards Quebrada de Palala, high red, gray, blue and violet cliffs, which resemble huge stone cathedrals. We continue to Tambillo through leafy willows, and upstream to Monterrico and Charahota, where large rocks of eroded sandstone can be seen, stretches of wild flowers, and wild birds flocks. We get to "La Poronga " a singular phallic monument of 50m. (7 hrs) Continuing to the North we go to San Miguel and Salo, rural towns on the banks of Salo river. (1 day).
The next day, we continue along a narrow winding hillside, a mule track that turns upward and ends up in La Apacheta, where the historical bandits spent the night in the windswept heights. We can admire cacti forests, queñua and yareta, the path narrows, and we ride between the boulder and the canyon to Huaca Huañusca, place where on November 4th 1908 around 9;30, the bandits armed with rifles robbed a money remittance from Aramayo. They stopped the man in charge Peró and requested politely the money and the mule. At this altitude the weather is harsh and cold, one must be prepared and dress appropriately for extreme temperatures during the night. (2nd day).
On the third day we return to the crest of the mountain, and then, leaving the trail and through scrub down slope, we go to the valley of Salo. (3rd day).
The next day we depart early in the extreme south of the valley, we ride back to Tupiza recalling all the beautiful imagery experienced over the four days. (4th day).
